It was unique as they helped each other get ready without all the secrets and traditions. We started with torrential rains and power outages only to have the weather clear for the ceremony and some photos later on. When I say you had to be there to hear the romantic, humorus, and thoughtful vows articulated to perfection well.... you just had to be there. It was the one time they were lost in each other and forgot about being on display for a while. We all got in the water for a day after shoot on the beach to help add to an incredible wedding. Grand Plaza destination wedding St. Petersburg Beach - Leona and Brian

"Harley Davidsons, Tatoos, Van Halen."
Those three things might not automatically make you think of a wedding day, but Leona and Brian aren't your typical bride and groom. But behind a seemingly tough image, they are one of the sweetest couples I have worked with. And even with it being a rainy day, that didn't stop us from finding some beautiful light all day (and night) long. Thanks to Kristi at the Grand Plaza who had everything running smooth. Despite not seeing the sun even once all day we managed to run out in between showers for portraits. Thanks to “the more than just a DJ” Rob of Sword Sounds for helping out with some lighting as we dashed in and out of the rain. Friends and family can view and order images here. Day After Trash the dress shoot in the Gulf of Mexico with Andrea and David, Clearwater FL

Jumping in the pool after their wedding at the SandPearl Resort (scroll down the blog) was not enough for us we had to go more extreme. We all set out to the beach on a Sunday (filled with people) to see what we could create. I was in the water the most fearing for my camera as I jumped a wave got low to the surface, take a shot, turn around and look for the next wave and repeat. The camera strap got dunked a few times but no other problems, anything for the shot!

When I had my initial consultation with David and Andrea, hiring a coordinator came up and Andrea was not sure about it. David quickly said "I don't want you to worry about anything, you should have a coordinator". From day one David was on the "it's all about the Bride" page. He thoughtfully and without hesitation handed Andrea the spotlight, making for an enchanting day. Brides do not get any more beautiful than Andrea and that kept my camera happy the entire wedding.

Andrea's choices for her wedding vendors were truly outstanding. The Sandpearl resort is a phenomenal place for a wedding, her hair (Kristina Bennett EnV) and makeup (Darlina with KyleLynn weddings) were perfection all day in the Florida heat, and we were lucky to have Felix the DJ getting the party going like no one else does. Grande Weddings event planners stayed until the very end providing outstanding service every step of the way.

Nothing is more rewarding than sharing the day with a couple that is really connected and in love. The look in Roy's eye said it all when Melaine walked down the isle. For a small moment in time there was no one else in the world but the two of them. The Grand Plaza is such a great location for a beach wedding I love the decor in the upstairs suites on the top floor. The reception room at the very top is a like an elegant and classy air traffic control tower with breathtaking views that overlook St. Petersburg Beach.

Nicole & Joris Pass-a-Grille Beach FL Wedding

Nicole and Joris are the real deal, you can "feel" the happy energy all around them. They are both extremely nice and not just pleasant nice but "heart of gold" type nice. Not one frown, one grimace, or show of stress, just positive energy all day. Friends and family were exactly the same. Nicole looked and always does I assume, beyond beautiful, every image, expression, turn of her head was pictue perfect all day. Joris and his crew were the first recent wedding I have shot where the guys had up to date style tuxes with the thinner inseam and shorter break on the pants, they were stylin' and looked great. This was an ocean side wedding ceremony at Pass-a-Grille Pavillion directly on the beach. They privately secured the entire Black Palm Resturant just down the road for their reception. Oh yeah and the sunset was...well just look below.

Ya think these two put in a little time at the Gym?..... once and a while I suppose, Good looking people only make my job easier so waiting until deep into next year is going to be tough because I am already excited about this wedding. Brooke is planning way ahead so this is an important and special event and I will be honored to be part of it. Joe seems to have his role down as he knows it's all about the Bride. It is always tough on the guys doing all this picture stuff, all guys want to be manly and not look all girly, kissy, kissy for the camera. Joe reminds me of a special forces type guy but just a short conversation will tell you he is really nice and has a lot of depth to him. Brooke knows and you can't fake a real connection it's all the eyes.... enjoy the pics and slide show.

Palma Ceia Country Club Wedding Tampa Fl - Kara and Tommy

It was a long time since the engagement shoot and Kara looked so beautiful I didn't even recognize her. We had to throw in some quick fashion shots during the day, I couldn't help my self. Tommy was happy all day. Though I like everyone to be themselves I tried to get him to look a little nervous for one shot and it wasn't working he kept smiling the whole time. If you think you see Sarah Palin (looking a little hotter than normal) in the slide show it's just Kara's mother. I was really impressed with the Palma Ceia Country Club in Tampa, the food was incredible, the staff extremely accomodating and the decor and grounds were great for pictures.

The majority of shoots usually start slow with people warming up to the camera etc. Not these two, while I was still fiddleing with my camera they snapped into the session so easily you would think they teach seminars. They are so natural and comfortable with each other I think I will need extra memory cards for the wedding because there are going to be many amazing moments to capture. A storm came through just as I arrived on Sand Key Beach and around sunset the sky was a multitude of colors. The last image of the day (the last one below) feels like another country.

Just around fifteen guests for this elegant wedding at one of my favorite venues The Don Cesar. A light rain and a few select storm clouds seemed just to target the ceremony enough to actually feel nice and then reward us with the most amazing rainbow. No photoshop, it was an amazing day and evening. The relaxed energy of small intimate beach weddings are making them more and more popular. The Don is always just so classy. From the incredible food to the thoughful foot bath and towels at beachside for the guests and the endless photographic opportunities. Please enjoy the slide show, below a few of my favorites.

Alfred Angelo Grand Opening

Wow what a day. I shot well close to 100 brides trying on dresses at Alfred Angelo's grand Opening in Tampa. It is no wonder all these girls are getting married they were all as sweet as can be. There was not one negative word or complaint all day. The staff was super helpful and Catering by Robert was there to feed everyone (and it was exceptional). Gigi from The Urban Loft Salon and Day Spa (a very, very cool hip salon) was doing up do's and radio station Wild 98.7 was also on hand.

Designer Michael Shettel was working hard helping brides make the best choices. Such a bonus to have the actual designer help you with your dress. What was so cool about the designs were that if a Bride found something she liked there were 3-4 similar dresses with slight differences that were just enough to make all the difference. Brides that shopped at over 5 stores previous were having a hard time choosing between two A.A. designs. If your a Bride looking for a dress you should check out the Tampa Store. This past Saturday I took part in a world wide photo walk event. Basically groups of people all over the world get together talk a little photography and walk around shooting. Scott Kelby organized the entire event and arranged team leaders, as he is local in the Tampa Bay area I went to his personal photo walk. Scott is the Tiger Woods, the Michael Phelps, or the Michael Jordan of Photoshop instruction. His multiple books, videos and instruction on the program are and continue to be legendary and a valuable resource for all photographers. Being the best at anything in this world is an accomplishment and Scott is the best educator on Photoshop period...not even argueable. It also helped bring attention to his latest book on Lightroom 2 and raise over $10,000.00 for an Orphanage in Kenya.

Here I am walking with him on the Dunedin photo walk explaining to Scott how to run mutiple batch action scripts on multiple folders, lol no not really I was just pestering him about something trivial I am sure. Deirdre & Elliot a Don Cesar Beach Wedding St. Petersburg Beach FL

The rain stayed away and like all weddings at The Don Cesar, elegance is paramount. Deirdre & Elliot have a real connection and are so similar. When bouncing from the guys to the girls and back again before the wedding, the energy was excatly the same, laid back and positive. The day went really smooth and it was an honor to be a part of it. At the reception it seemed like there was a dancing issue, everyone was too good,...later I found out the Deirdre's father was a professional instructor so that explained it, there were performances and mini performances all night long. Here are some favs, and yes I did selective color as a special request "Stephen style" enjoy some of my old school antique processing also. I guess the inside theme of the day was stairs.

Hilary and Josh are the perfect example of why I interview couples as they interview me, if they have it together then so will the images. As we drove and shot around Anderson Park in Tarpon Springs it didn't take long for them to be comfortable in front of the camera because they are so relaxed and comfortable with each other. The Gators in the lake were looking fairly comfortable too as they stalked us a bit but were camera shy. I am really looking forward to the Wedding in November! Check out the slide show here

Wedding at The Lange Farm - Devon and Alan

It was a privilege to capture Devon & Alan’s wedding at the Lange Farm. They both have a calm and quiet depth about them, yet just standing near Alan you could feel a happy energy that never faded. It was a relaxed, stress free day and I suspect Devon's mother had a lot to do with that. After working at just about every major wedding venue multiple times in the Tampa Bay area it was nice to finally get to the Lange Farm with perfect weather conditions. What a welcome escape to get out to the country and be on a Farm. The stress and fast pace of your mind just fades away to calmness and tranquility. The staff was really nice, genuine and did a fantastic job. Meghan was the staff coordinator who worked hard all day with smile and helped cart us around for some great photo ops. Shannon & Nick 30 MPH plus winds!

Not sure you would know how windy it was by the photos but all things considering it was a great day. The Bride is always the star and Shannon was no exception but Nick was really full of emotion and also quite funny during the ceremony and held is own all day. My favorite shot is the vertical on the dock near the end of the night.

I am really looking forward to this wedding next year. Beach, water, Lighthouse what else can you say about a classic Florida Wedding. Nick and Shannon have it "together". When a couple is really in tune with each other and comfortable it make my job that much easier. An engagment session can really get the photographer and couple comfortable and on the same page.

WPPI Las Vegas 2007

Leaving for Vegas now to become a better photographer by attending the huge WPPI photography convention. Looking forward to lots of great classes by some of the top pros in the industry. I also get to check in on the latest in album design etc. Just down the road from Bally's where I am staying and where the convention is hosted, is Andre Agassi's charity office. I shot him in 2005 for the St. Pete Tennis center and Jim Courier's foundation and thought I would stop by and give him all the images just in case he might have a use for them. He may not have a lot of these type of shots so I thought I should offer them, he does so much for Charity and is an inspiration on and off the court.
